Complete the Sacrifice!

Philippians 2:17-18, Devotion #15

But even if my life is to be poured out like a drink offering to complete the sacrifice of your faithful service (that is if I am to die for you), I will rejoice, and I want to share my joy with all of you. And you should be happy about this and rejoice with me.
Philippians 2:17-18

Father, "complete the sacrifice"…what a thought to ponder.

I think back to that night a short distance from Jerusalem when Jesus camped out with his followers. The darkness fell and the enemy was coming. Earlier that night He asked His disciples to pray for Him. He ventured a little ways off to pray about what was ahead. A betrayal awaited, an arrest, a flogging, a crown of thorns, a cross with some nails keeping Him firmly attached, a placard reading…"King of Kings," a piercing in His side by sword, spit, blood, jeers and sneers, sheer agony, and most of all, separation from You, His Father.

And that night He said, "Not my way, Father, but your way!" And He did "complete the sacrifice!"

Before the foundation of the world, Jesus was there. All things were created through Him and for Him. He was the Word! The Word became flesh! He was the Son of God and the Son became a man and dwelt amongst us. That night we see that He in every way "complete(ed) the sacrifice!" Why? For you, for me, for us, forever! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

And so, we too are called to "complete the sacrifice" of whatever You have called us to. We need Your help. And, Father, may it be not our way but your way! Come Holy Spirit!

Thank you, Father, in Jesus name. Amen.
