The Ebb and Flow of Feelings!

Philippians 2:17-18, Devotion #19

But even if my life is to be poured out like a drink offering to complete the sacrifice of your faithful service (that is if I am to die for you), I will rejoice, and I want to share my joy with all of you. And you should be happy about this and rejoice with me.
Philippians 2:17-18

Father, recently a bunch of us were talking about our spiritual lives and the question was asked, "What one word would we use at present to describe how you feel about your spiritual life?" Some of the responses: supported, happy, dry, simple, fun, embarrassed, surrendered, exciting, calm, bleak, distant. And I would guess that most of us could have used all of these words at some point in our lives. Fact is, there is such an ebb and flow of "feelings" as relates to our spiritual life. And what we do, how we connect with You, during all the many cycles of "feeling" is what seems to really matter.

As ou
r lives unfold and move on through the years, it would be my prayer that we, like Paul, would rejoice in whatever it is that You are doing in our lives. We have friends we love very much who go through awful hard times with health, in relationships, in work situations. These hard times are all times when the words we would use to describe our spiritual lives might change. Yes, the descriptive word may change, but through it all, fill us with Your "joy." May we be able to "rejoice in You always" because we know that all is within Your care and Your power. Yes, Father, we sometimes get our eyes locked on the current situation going on around us. May we be able to fix our eyes, "not on what is seen, but what is unseen." Come Holy Spirit!

Thank You, Father, in Jesus name. Amen.

Love, Dad / Danny
