Tightly . . . Fast Philippians 2:16, Devotional #2
Hold tightly to the word of life, so that when Christ returns, I will be proud that I did not lose the race and that my work was not useless. Philippians 2:16
Father, "Holding fast to the word of life" is how the New International Version translates "Hold tightly to the word of life." And John writes "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men . . . The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." Yes, the Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us and that Word is Jesus. So, "hold fast," "hold tightly," to Jesus. That's really what you're saying here.
Anna and I are in South Carolina with nine other couples: brothers and sisters in Jesus who began that eternal relationship with you as far back as thirty-five years ago. All of us have had ups and downs in our own lives- our children's lives. We have all held fast, held tightly to Jesus. There have been thoughts of some about chucking the faith, but none have. All have held on during the good times of life and during the hard times. You see, the times really don't matter when it comes to holding on to Jesus. We just do it, regardless of where we are, what circumstances we face or the times. We just hold on "fast" and "tightly."
Plans are made for next year to gather again for the twenty-eighth year. We'll meet in Ocean City, we'll laugh, cry, share and glorify You as we are all still holding "tightly," "fast," because You alone have the words of life,You alone are the Word of Life. Come Holy Spirit.
Thank You, Father, in Jesus name. Amen. Love, Dad / Danny
