It's Just Not About Us! Philippians 2:17-18, Devotion #2
But even if my life is poured out like a drink offering to complete the sacrifice of your faithful service (that is, if I am to die for you), I will rejoice, and I want to share my joy with all of you. And you should be happy about this and rejoice with me. Philippians 2:17-18
Father, I have had lots of talks with guys over the years about ministry and who things are really for. It has been something I have had to learn and keep on learning every day. Who is ministry for? What is this or that all about? The bottom-line for me is that everything we do is ultimately for You and Your glory and none of it is just about us. It's about others and we want to see Your joy complete in their lives. Sure we want that joy complete in ourselves but it's just not about us. It's about others coming to know You and experience the joy of that relationship with Jesus.
I can be so self-centered at times. Too many times we act as if the world revolves around us. Too many times we act like we are a self-made person who worships their own creator. Paul is in prison with his life on death's door. And "even if (his) life is poured out like a drink offering" it just really does not matter. Nothing pales in comparison to Your joy becoming complete in our own lives and in the lives of others.
Father, we have lots of things that we get concerned about at times. And in the midst of those things, may we be given the wisdom to see beyond our own concerns. Thank You that You take our concerns into Your care. Thank You that You allow us to be involved in matters that really matter. Forgive us for being so self absorbed at times. Forgive us for considering ourselves only at times. Forgive us for acting like this world revolves around us at times. Come Holy Spirit, fill us with Your insights, ways and thoughts. Transform our minds from within and may we be willing to be "poured out like a drink offering" if that be Your will.
Thank You, Father, in Jesus name. Amen. Love, Dad / Danny
