Fair Weathered and Faithful?

Philippians 2:17-18, Devotion #21

But even if my life is to be poured out like a drink offering to complete the sacrifice of your faithful service (that is if I am to die for you), I will rejoice, and I want to share my joy with all of you. And you should be happy about this and rejoice with me.
Philippians 2:17-18

Father, we all know about "fair weathered" friends. We see the same thing in "Christian" circles. And who knows if these "fair weathered Christians" are really faithful followers of Jesus or just simple imposters. That is not ours to call, decide, or even know. It is so easy to slip into the "I want it my way" kind of mentality. And we can be "fair weathered" and faithful in the same week. It is so easy to get involved in "stuff" that involves different opinions, interpretations, and thoughts. There have been wars over theological interpretation, families have split, and denominations have developed.

And…I certainly don't understand the hate that can sometimes rise up in "Christian circles", but it does. Do these kinds of things grieve You? Do we cause You pain at our inhumanity and stubborn, selfish ways? Wow, that You want relationship with such messed-up people is hard to grasp. Thank You, Jesus, that You "poured out (Your life) like a drink offering to complete the sacrifice" necessary for us to have eternal life. "Poured out!" Yes indeed, You did. But, Easter is coming! May we have such love for you and others that we too are willing to be "poured out." Eternity is coming! Come Holy Spirit!

Thank You, Father, in Jesus name. Amen.

Love, Dad / Danny
