Like a Drink Offering
Philippians 2:17-18, Devotion #4

But even if my life is poured out like a drink offering to complete the sacrifice of your faithful service (that is, if I am to die for you), I will rejoice, and I want to share my joy with all of you. And you should be happy about this and rejoice with me.
Philippians 2:17-18

Father, I am thankful for telling my boys how proud I am of them. It's really easy for me to say because they are incredible guys. Raley works full time pouring out his life "like a drink offering" as he loves high school folks and helps them know who Jesus is and how much You love them. Jordan has served in the Navy now for some 15+ years and there isn't much more pouring out of one's life "like a drink offering" as serving in the military. Yes, I am mighty proud of those two boys – men!

"Like a drink offering" sounds sweet to me. The Mormons come by my house and I offer them a cold beverage or glass of water. That sounds like a "drink offering" of sorts. It seems to me that it would be just as easy to live life "like a drink offering" as it would to live life as a leach kind of creature. It seems that giving rather than taking would be so much more enjoyable, even if the cost is sometimes as costly as for one to "die" for another.

You want life and life in its fullness for all of Your children, for all of us. And that fullness comes through sacrifice and service - through giving and not taking. What joy awaits all in knowing You and Your way. Father, send Your Holy Spirit into our lives in such an overwhelming way that the choice between our way and Your way is really no choice. May we desire nothing but what You want for ourselves or others.

Thank You, Father, in Jesus name. Amen.

Love, Dad/Danny
