Who Really Matters Philippians 2:19, Devotional #5
If the Lord Jesus is willing, I hope to send Timothy to you soon. Then when he comes back, he can cheer me up by telling me how you are getting along. Philippians 2:19
Father, Timothy cared for himself and he also cared "for what matters to Jesus Christ." And that is one of the realities of the Christian life: to love our neighbor as ourselves. Seems to me that Jesus is saying that loving ourselves is an important thing, and as we love ourselves, so we should go and love our neighbor. That kind of living "matters to Jesus."
The reality is, there's lots of love going out to others because of "what matters to Jesus" and because we care about what He cares about. There are so many incredible acts of love and sacrifice toward others because that "matters to Jesus." I was talking with a Grandmother today who has given so much for children to have the chance to know the joy of a relationship with Jesus. She has truly poured out herself, her love and her energy because of "what matters to Jesus." And in the midst of it all, she carries her own burdens.
Father, thank You so much for the many we know who carry that heavy load and yet pour themselves out for the sake of your Kingdom and because that is "what matters to Jesus," not just to themselves. Who are we caring for? Hopefully for "what matters to Jesus:" and that is to love You...and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Come Holy Spirit!
Thank you, Father, in Jesus name. Amen.
Love, Dad/Danny
