Jars of Clay, For Sure!
Philippians 2:17-18, Devotion #20
But even if my life is to be poured out like a drink offering to complete the sacrifice of your faithful service (that is if I am to die for you), I will rejoice, and I want to share my joy with all of you. And you should be happy about this and rejoice with me. Philippians 2:17-18
Father, there are so many times that I live as if life revolves around me. That old phrase, "What have you done for me lately" comes to mind sometimes when thinking about my relationship with You. Your people sure can be so self-centered at times, and that certainly includes me. Like Paul says, "I am the chief of sinners" when it comes to that. And yet, there are times that we would lay down our lives for Your way and cause. We are willing to "complete the sacrifice" that You may have called us to.
What is so wonderful is how You will and do use us in all our humanness: our weakness, our strength, our all. We do "hold this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all surpassing power is from You and not from us." (2 Corinthians 4: 7-8).
Father, it has been a joy pondering Philippians 2:17-18 for twenty times now. The bottom line for me is that we who are Your people can truly pour ourselves out doing whatever it is that You have called us to do. We will rejoice amidst even the hard times! We will bless you even when or if we are being "poured out like a drink offering." Father, You are glorified through these weak / strong bodies that we dwell in. Come Holy Spirit!
Thank You, Father, in Jesus name. Amen.
Love, Dad / Danny
