As we approach the holiday season with Thanksgiving and Christmas, our culture reminds us that this is the “hap, hap, happiest” season of all! These holidays are to be celebrated with family and friends. Yet, the stressors around the holidays can make them very difficult.

Growing up in the church I remember singing "Come Ye Thankful People, Come”. The words to this hymn are foreign to us in 2022, but it is a call to God’s people to gather, sing praise, and give thanks to God after a successful fall harvest.

Give thanks in all circumstances? Is that hard for anyone else? It’s a simple command and seems easy enough, but why is it so hard? I think it boils down and is linked to one simple thing. In order to give thanks, we must first remember.

It is a common tradition that some families on Thanksgiving Day go around their tables one by one sharing something specific that they are thankful for. But what about thanking God even in the mundane days or in the hard trials we go through?
